The diagnosis of and an evaluation of the severity of sleep apnea is possible using an at home sleep monitoring device. These can be conveniently obtained, even delivered to your home on a loan basis, and the cost is modest compared to an over night hospital based sleep test. This test is very important when considering the use of an oral snore reduction device because sleep apnea and snoring are often coincidental problems, the one annoying the other life threatning, and the treatment very different.
There exist a number of snoring appliances. Most of these rely on advancing the lower jaw forward and bracing it in a position so that the tongue does not obstruct the air way. Currently it is generally recommended that a patient have a sleep test to rule out sleep apnea because a significan number of people who snore also have sleep apnea. Left untreated, the patient is at risk for the more serious problems that are associated with this sleep disorder. That being said, we can help you with snoring problems.
